Workers at Mack Trucks ratify new contract, ending 39-day strike

Nearly 4,000 members of the United Auto Workers union approved a five-year contract with Volvo Group’s Mack Trucks unit, ending a 39-day strike at the commercial truck maker’s plants in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Florida.

The deal was ratified by 93% of the members voting, the union said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. Volvo said the contract that was voted on Wednesday was largely the same as the tentative agreement on a master contract that union members rejected Oct. 8.

That provided a 19% pay rise over the life of the contract, starting with a 10% increase in the first year. In recent weeks, the negotiations focused on revising the terms in local contracts that cover various work sites.

The union said the ratified contract includes “significant local improvements.”
