Tracker – Chicago – Review

In a gripping episode set against the metropolitan backdrop of Chicago, viewers were thrown into a heart-pounding scenario as a young woman, Sun Mai, was abruptly snatched in a dark alleyway by two hooded figures. This chilling incident set the stage for a thrilling installment of the series, which had Bobby and Colter finally meet face to face. The stakes were personal for Bobby, as Sun was a good friend of his and he enlisted Colter’s help to find her.

The investigation led the duo to a boxing gym, the last place Sun was seen, sparking questions about her unusual exit through the alley. As the plot thickened, Colter’s knack for detail uncovered a crucial clue- a blood covered burner phone with calls from a blocked number on the same day Sun disappeared. Despite hitting a wall with the gym owner and an equally uncooperative fighter, Colter’s persistence peeled back layers of deceit, revealing a shady exploitation network, targeting vulnerable immigrants.

The narrative weaved through the grim reality of Sun’s situation, from being duped by a fake lawyer, George Prine, to her abduction orchestrated under the guise of intimidation gone awry. Colter and Bobby’s relentless pursuit to find Sun exposed the dark underbelly of an underground boxing league, which was exploiting Sun’s desperation to remain in the country by using her to fight in the league to bring in big money. The situation was made worse by the discovery that the gym owner was the one running the underground league. A man that Sun put her faith and trust in, ended up exploiting her for profit.

This episode was a compelling tale of the exploitation faced by illegal immigrants, wrapped in a narrative of suspense and rescue. Colter’s inclusion of Reenie in the case, highlighted the legal complexities and challenges faced by immigrants trying to make a life in the U.S. Thankfully in this case, Reenie was able to get Sun and her mother’s visa reinstated under a special law that enables immigrants that were victims of a crime to remain in the country. Sadly, in real-life, illegal immigrants often do not fare as well.

Another highlight of the episode was that viewers were finally provided with insight into Bobby’s background. Bobby revealed that he once found himself entangled in a risky cyber hacking operation, and it was Colter who helped him escape the predicament. He feels indebted to Colter which is why he is always willing and available to help. Featuring Bobby prominently in the episode and delving into his backstory allowed viewers to form a deeper connection with his character. Hopefully the writer’s will extend this treatment to the other characters on the show, Colter included.

The series keeps gaining momentum with every episode that passes. How are you feeling about it, Tracker fans? What did you think of the episode? Did you enjoy learning more about Bobby? Which character do you still wish to learn more about? Comment below and engage with me on X @middleofcanada.
