Julie Harris Playwriting Competition Accepting Applications

            The Beverly Hills Theatre Guild’s Julie Harris Playwriting Competition is accepting applications for its annual playwriting contest. 

This prestigious competition is in its 48th year and attracts interest from around the world. Entries are accepted year-round & winners are selected each June/July.  The awards competition is presented by Judson Mock.

            Every year, three winners are selected and are presented with cash prizes for full-length (75 minutes minimum) previously unproduced plays. “Unproduced” means: No previous production (Equity or non-Equity) for which actors or authors were paid or admission was charged, or both.

No musicals are eligible. However, plays with an occasional song for ambience are considered. The plays must also be unpublished and not currently under any option.

            This year, the prizes will be $3,500, $2,500, and $1,500 for first, second and third prizes respectively.

            There is a $25 entry fee for submissions. Only one play per entrant will be considered.

About Julie Harris

Julie Harris (Dec 2, 1925-Aug 24, 2013) is widely regarded as one of the most respected and honored stage actresses in America. For more than half a century, she has been recognized as the soul of the American theater. Her stage performances in I Am a Camera (1952), The Lark (1956), Forty Carats (1969), The Last of Mrs. Lincoln (1973), and The Belle of Amherst (1977) gave her the distinction of winning more Tony Awards than any other performer.  Her 10 nominations were likewise unequalled. In 2002, she was honored with yet another Tony, The Lifetime Achievement Award, securing her place in the record books for decades to come.
