House of the Dragon to End With Season 4, Season 3 to Begin Production in 2025

“House of the Dragon” will conclude with Season 4 as official word dropped on Monday. During a press conference, showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed that the “Game of Thrones” prequel will have two more seasons, wrapping up the series with its fourth season. Currently, the third season is being written, with production set to begin in early 2025. While the episode count for Season 3 has not been finalized, it’s expected to follow the eight-episode format of Season 2.

Ryan Condal, the showrunner for “House of the Dragon,” explained the decision to delay the Battle of the Gullet until a future season. He mentioned that while fans may wish for annual releases, the complexity of the show requires careful and detailed production, akin to creating multiple feature films per season. Condal hinted that if previous events like Rook’s Rest and the Red Sowing were any indication, the upcoming Battle of the Gullet would be a significant and impressive moment.

Condal also addressed the intriguing appearance of Otto Hightower (played by Rhys Ifans) in the Season 2 finale, where he was seen seemingly imprisoned, a twist from the events in “Fire & Blood.” While he didn’t reveal specific details about Otto’s situation, he assured that Otto’s story is not yet concluded and will continue to unfold in Season 3. Fans can expect more revelations about Otto’s fate in the upcoming season.
