Hollywood Queer Short Film Festival Accepting Submissions

The tenth annual Hollywood Queer Short Film Festival is now accepting early bird submissions. Submitted films should be 30 minutes or less, and must include queer content.

“This year our festival is of particular importance, as it constitutes an act of resistance against the fascist government that wants to erase all things queer from the national consciousness,” stated Festival Director, Jim Hoffman.  The festival theme this year, Hoffman added, is “Visibility is Resistance.”

The Hollywood Queer Short Film Festival will screen again this year on October 4th and 5th at Founders Metropolitan Community Church in Hollywood. Selected Short Films will be presented in four programs reflecting our immense and diverse queer community.

Filmmakers can submit their live action or animated films online at FilmFreeway.com. An experienced selection committee will then select the approximately forty films to be exhibited at the event.

“As was the case last year,” Hoffman said, “Film festival behemoth Outfest will be offering less than its usual extensive schedule. There has been no official word, but there’s no mention at the Outfest website of their traditional summer festival, nor any announcements of the Outfest Fusion QTBIPOC Film Festival, which emphasizes films by and about people of color. This means many films will get their only exposure to the Los Angeles market through our festival,” Hoffman said, “We are aware that this puts our festival in a unique position. We take this responsibility very seriously.”

**The Hollywood Queer Short Film Festival has an audience favorite award, determined by balloting, and jury awards for best comedy or musical, best drama, and best (regardless of gender) in each of those two categories. The jury is also empowered to create additional awards for anything they deem worthy of that kind of recognition. None of the awards has a cash value.
